8:00am- Breakfast at Elite Restaurant!

Start your day in Jackson with a scrumptious breakfast at the Elite Restaurant, an Old-school Southern restaurant that specializes in seafood dishes and home-style cooking. 9:00am- History comes alive at Mississippi State Capitol!

Take a tour of the Beaux-Arts style structure that features the state’s history. With lights, elaborate white and black marble rotunda, gold-leaf covered eagle above the dome, and beautiful exteriors, it offers a candid picture of the history of Mississippi. This building houses the State Library, the Legislative Chambers, the Governor’s Office, the Hall of Governors, the original Liberty Bell replica, the magnolia tree, the sculpture from the second USS Mississippi battleship and a statue in memory of the Confederate soldiers and their families. Observe the House of Representatives and Senate chambers in action!

10:00am- Some more Mississippi history at Mississippi Old State Capitol!

The Mississippi Old State Capitol is restored to its original splendor and highlights the history of the building and the series of events that took place in it. It houses many multimedia exhibits and artifacts that may involve the visitors in the interactive exploration of the roles of governor, high court, legislature and the events that have contributed to the Mississippi history. Learn about the state government and their role. Additionally, several events are held here all year-round that enlighten visitors about the past and present.

11:00am- Venture into Eudora Welty House!

Visit the Eudora Welty House, a national historic landmark in Jackson. It is home of the internationally recognized, Pulitzer Prize winning author Eudora Welty. Welty wrote most of her work in this house. As you walk through the doors of the house, you’ll yourself being transported back in time. Check out the original furnishings, personal items, photographs, paintings, books and memorabilia of Welty. The house has a vast of collection of books. Outside the house is a beautiful garden. Stroll through the garden and breathe in the scent of different gardens like woodland garden, a rose garden, perennial border, trellises and a camellia garden.

12:00pm- Pop into The Oaks House Museum!

Visit the Oaks House Museum, which is the oldest residence in Jackson. It was residence of James H. Boyd, longtime mayor of Jackson. Three generations of the Boyd family lived here. The house features period furnishings and Boyd family items and memorabilia that illustrate their life in Jackson in the mid-nineteenth century. Stroll through the Victorian garden outside the house and take in the fragrance of the antique roses, native perennials, camellia garden, and a kitchen herb garden. A historic site worth a visit!

1:00pm- Lunch!

After exploring the history of Jackson, you surely have worked up an appetite, which indicates it’s time for lunch!

Swing by the Parlor Market (115 W Capitol Street) that serves up farm-to-table Southern fare. For some Mediterranean flavors, head to The Manship (1200 N State Street #100) or Keifer’s Restaurant (710 Poplar Blvd). If barbecue is on your mind, make you way over to Chimneyville Smokehouse (970 High St)

2:00pm- Take in some local art at Mississippi Museum of Art!

After a hearty refuel, head to Mississippi Museum of Art to take in some local and international modern art. The museum features art collection from the 1800s and the 1900s, as well as an impressive collection of contemporary art, African American folk art, Civil War drawings, paintings, photographs, works on paper and sculptures. Works by artists like Thomas Sully, Arthur B, Davis, Walter Anderson, Gwendolyn A. Magee, William Dunlap, Birney Imes, George O’Keeffe, Andy Warhol and  James Abbott McNeil Whistler, to name a few are featured here. A perfect place for art aficionados!

3:00pm-  Tour the Mississippi Governor’s Mansion!

The Mississippi Governor’s Mansion is one of the finest examples of the Greek revival –style architecture in Mississippi. Designed by William Nicholas, it has an impressive facade and magnificent interiors. It is the one of the first residence of Mississippi governors and was first acquired by Governor Tilghman Tucker in 1842, and continues to house the other governors of the state. This mansion encompasses the early phases of the Mississippi history. It features period furnishings and exhibits that illustrate the story of the site.

4:00pm- Get some visual experience at Russell C. Davis Planetarium!

Next, make your way over to the Russell C. Davis Planetarium where visitors can learn about science, celestial navigation, astronomy, travel through space, see the starry night sky, check out the stunning colorful laser light shows, and unravel the mysteries of the planets and stars at the McNair Space Theatre’s Sky Show. The striking feature of this spot is the dome-shaped projection screen where visitors can see the planets, starts and other celestial bodies. Embark on a journey through sky and space!

7:00pm- Time to Imbibe and Munch On!
